PRODUCTION TEAM
Director: Chin-Yuan Ke
「My camera can make a difference.」
Chin-Yuan Ke was born and raised in Shenkang Township, Changhua County; a coastal village, where a clear stream ran in front of his home. Villagers would do their laundry, take baths, catch fish and shrimps in the stream, and use the water for irrigation. Unfortunately, heavy industry has taken its toll, with dried farmland, polluted air and industrial sewage drainage contaminating the once clean stream.
In the face of environmental injustices, Ke began to advocate for vulnerable communities through the power of his lens. Since 1980 he has been recording and presenting stories of Taiwanese people and ecology. He has also visited jungles, Polar Regions, Mount Everest and countless mountains and islets all over the world. In over 32 years as a photographer and filmmaker, he has produced more than 20 documentaries, 400 plus feature reports, over 200,000 images and text files of fieldwork, and has participated in the production of more than 200 program episodes on environmental issues.
His documentaries have won more than 20 awards at national and international film festivals like Taiwan TV Golden Bell Awards, Taipei Film Festival, German animal, nature and environmental film festival – NaturVision, Korean Green Film Festival, USA International Wildlife Film Festival, New York festivals: 2011 World’s Best Television & Films, and Spanish “Telenatura” film festival.
